In Photos, photo libraries are arranged automatically into a new single view, and useful new collections make favorites quickly available. With the use of on-device intelligence, Mail sorts emails into categories to streamline the inbox, and iMessage now offers brand-new text effects. Utilizing the same revolutionary technology that powers the satellite features of the current iPhone,
Additionally, iOS 18 brings Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac that delivers exceptionally relevant and helpful intelligence by fusing the power of generative models with individual context.2. Apple Intelligence, which was developed with privacy as a top priority, is extensively incorporated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It makes use of the capabilities of Apple silicon to simplify and expedite daily chores by understanding and producing language and graphics, executing actions across apps, and drawing from personal context.
“We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customization and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
New Degrees of Possibility and Personalization
Users of iPhones now have additional customization options for Control Center, Lock Screen, and Home Screen. On the Home Screen, users may now organize widgets and apps in any available area. For example, they can arrange them to perfectly frame a wallpaper or sit directly above the dock for convenient access. Users have the ability to customize their experience by making app icons and widgets appear larger and giving them a dark or tinted effect.
Control Center has been redesigned to provide easier access to many of the things users do every day, and it gets new levels of customization and flexibility. The redesign delivers quick access to new groups of a user’s most-utilized controls, such as media playback, Home controls, and connectivity, as well as the ability to easily swipe between each. Users can now add controls from supported third-party apps into Control Center to quickly unlock a vehicle or jump right into capturing content for social media — all from one place.
The new controls gallery displays the full set of available options, and users can customize how the controls are laid out, including adjusting them to the ideal size and creating entirely new groups. iPhone 15 Pro shows Control Center. Users may now choose from alternatives in the controls gallery or remove them completely, making it possible to change the controls at the bottom of the Lock Screen for the first time. On the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, users can rapidly access controls found in the gallery by tapping the Action button.
Photos Gets a Unified View, New Collections, and Customization
To make it easier for consumers to identify and revisit memorable experiences, Photos gets its largest redesign to date. The classic grid is presented in a simpler single view, and new collections allow users to browse content by themes without having to arrange it into albums. Additionally, collections can be pinned to maintain easy access to favorites.
A fresh carousel view showcases daily updated highlights of cherished individuals, animals, locations, and more. Libraries come to life with autoplaying content, allowing users to browse while relishing in the memories of the past.
Since every user has a different photo library, the app allows users to personalize it by allowing them to organize collections, pin collections for easy access, and display their most valued photos in a carousel format.
Powerful Ways to Stay Connected in Messages
All-new text effects are added to iMessage, enhancing any letter, word, phrase, or emoji with lively, animated looks to make conversations come to life. By using formatting tools like bold, underlining, italics, and strikethrough, users can more effectively convey their tone. Tapbacks now allow users to construct messages and schedule them to be sent at a later time. They also support any emoji or sticker.
The Messages app now supports RCS for richer media and more dependable group communications than SMS and MMS when texting contacts who do not own an Apple device.
In iOS 18, satellite messaging is added for situations where Wi-Fi and cellular networks are unavailable. Enables users to send and receive texts, emojis, and Tapbacks over iMessage and SMS directly from the Messages app.
Messages via satellite is powered by the same ground-breaking technology as current iPhone satellite capabilities.3. Users can always recognize when they are connecting to a satellite with Dynamic Island. iMessages transmitted by satellite are end-to-end encrypted since the platform was designed to safeguard user privacy.
